Beaver Valley Alumni

BV alum doing some very special things in the Division I college baseball world!! JJ Bleday – Junior at Vanderbilt University – hit two home runs over the weekend at South Carolina – This brought his season total to 23 home runs, which is an all time Vanderbilt record!! As I type this email, JJ is projected to go #5 in the FIRST round of the MLB draft in June per the website www.mlb.com – His amazing numbers for the current #2 ranked team in the country: He is second on the team in batting average at .352 AND he leads the team in Home Runs (23), RBIs (61), .791 slugging percentage, and 39 walks. BV BASEBALL ALUM BRENDAN MCKAY TAKEN 4TH PICK OF ROUND 1 OF THE MLB DRAFT

Hello Everybody,
I wanted to send you all an email about Brendan McKay, who was drafted with the 4th pick of the 1st round of the MLB draft last night by the Tampa Bay Rays.  Brendan was the first college player taken; as the first three picks where high school players. To hear Brendan’s name last night being called in this draft was a very emotional and proud moment for me as his old coach.  Brendan was a BV lifer, and played with our program for ALL the possible years we offered, during his 7 years in our organization, BK was unstoppable at the plate and on the mound.  He has become quite famous for his on field stone face and ice in his veins demeanor, and that has always been there from the time he started playing with us at age 9.  He was always a great kid – a quiet kid that just showed up and gave you everything he had every game.  Through my years of running BV, I have coached against some of the best in the big leagues today, we yearly competed against Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, Kris Bryant, Buster Posey, and the list goes on and on – all these players dominated the game all the way through.  Brendan growing up was not as big as these kids, he was tall and lean, but I have to tell you that he dominated the game just like the greats of the big leaguers today.  In his time in a BV uniform, I can’t remember a time he looked outmatched as a hitter, and I can’t remember a time where he was really knocked around on the mound.  He has worked very hard to build his frame, and he is a feared left handed hitter, as he was drafted as a first basemen.  None of the accomplishments and awards BK has won are a surprise to me – he has always been at the top of the level he was playing – what he has done in his college career is the same thing he did in his high school career and the same thing he did in his travel baseball career and that is in a simple word DOMINATE!!  It was an honor to coach this young man for the years that I was able to, I am so proud of his work ethic and what he has worked hard to accomplish, and I am very happy for his family (his dad Bruce still stops down at West Mayfield from time to time to say hi and watch a BV practice)!!  I’m not sure what the future will hold for this young man, but I know the Rays got a big time player, with a big league demeanor, and a fantastic person!!  Hats off to Brendan McKay!!
Thanks,
Brian

BV BASEBALL 2017 — BIG NEWS!!!

Hello Everybody,
I wanted to send you all an email about an important move for the BV BASEBALL CLUB starting in the fall of this season.  We are merging with the Sports Zone Express.  I have been working with the Sports Zone staff on this merger for the past few months.  I feel that the BV BASEBALL CLUB fields some of the best baseball teams in the country.  The Sports Zone Express is a local program with some wonderful trainers and coaches.  They compete in local tournaments, and have pretty good success doing so.  What does it all mean?  Let me break this down into a baseball season, and as you read you will find the only real change is that we have a larger staff of qualified instructors and coaches:
WINTER TRAINING:

**We will still use Pittsburgh facilities as we have done – as well as HHH.  Nothing here is changing — I am working with Greentree now to set up our slots there; as well as looking at some other options — I like the idea of keeping kids close to home (especially during the week) with school in the winter.  This idea has worked very well for me for the past 21 years, and we will continue to do it that way.
**One area that is really changing here is the number of guys and instructors we can have at our winter practices.  We will continue to work hard to develop players at the highest level and along with myself and the current BV staff, we will have the Sports Zone staff as well!!  We will have all of our stations with qualified men in each station.  Click on this link to see the Sports Zone instructors:  http://www.beavercountysportszone.com/staff
SPRING/SUMMER SEASON:

**We will continue to play the toughest and the most elite schedule possible for our BV teams that can play at that level.  The Super NITs, Perfect Game and USA events are all on our radar for any teams capable of competing at that level.  The BV RED teams and some of our BV BLACK teams play that type of schedule now, and they will continue to play that type of schedule moving forward.
**The excitement here is the ability to have such quality in our high school ages.  We look forward to helping our athletes reach their goals of playing college baseball.  We have a current Orioles scout as a member of our team (Rich Pasquale), and we have a few current MLB guys as well to help in the winter training.  The staff has a number of ex division I guys that played in the minors/majors to help guide our older athletes on the right path.  Guys that understand the recruiting process and will help our players be seen by the right people.  Patrick Cutshall will be in charge of these high school age teams.  He has done an excellent job in recent years, and being able to put this all together makes a lot of sense.  Pat has done an outstanding job of communicating with colleges, and with him in charge we will see to it that our player’s get in front of the right people.
**I will be in charge of a lot of things kind of like I do now.  The day to day operation of this program will fall on Myself and Patrick.  I will be handling the scheduling and all parts of the pre-high school ages.  Patrick will be handling the day to day operations within our high school ages.  We will work as one unit – with the coaches and instructors helping ALL ages.  Having this type of staff makes my life (now 42 years old) a lot easier.  I am a very intense about the game, it has become quite a passion for me – those that I coach can see that, but to have a staff around me that can help coach these teams, and be part of our practice instruction will be so valuable for all our players.
COST:

**With all the new instructors and coaches that are involved — the 2017 baseball season will not cost one more penny.  The 2016 budgets will be duplicated in each age group.
CLOSING COMMENTS:
**This program has always been one of excellence.  Our teams are nationally recognized and respected.  I have been so lucky through the last 21 years to field some of the best teams in the country.  I have had the ability to train and work with some of the best athletes to EVER come out of Western PA.  This merger, for me, extends the dream that I have been living for the past 21 years.  To field the best teams, to give great instruction and prepare players for the highest level possible, and seek out and play the best competition for each team!!  I love the staff that I currently have, and I am now proud to be part of a larger staff of guys that are “baseball guys” and share that passion that I have.
In closing, this is a great time to be a part of this program!!  We are building things to be bigger and better than they have ever been!!  I greatly look forward to this merger, and how BV EXPRESS can take the world by storm!!
If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email or give me a call!!
As Always,
Thanks for all you do,
Brian

BV BASEBALL WEEKEND GAME RESULTS FOR MAY 13 – 15: GET YOUR BROOMS OUT!!

Hello Everybody,

This weekend, most of our BV squads took the field in a local tournament at the “No Off Season” facility in Tarentum, PA.  With a program on a mission, we had to fight all our opponents over this weekend, but we also had to battle the bitter cold and sometimes snowy weather!!  This weekend was the coldest in the middle of May since the 1950’s!!!  In the end, the weather couldn’t slow down our BV squads, and neither could our opponents!!  We cleaned up the hardware by sweeping every age offered by this event.  Below are all our squads and how the fared over this weekend:

BV 8s RED:  Swept a double header against the Erie Outlaws 9U.  Our squad showed up on a cold Sunday in Wampum and took it to the Outlaws.  They won the first game by a 10 – 1 margin, and the second game by a score of 14 – 0.  This team is going to continue to get better, and it was important they played as they have had quite a few cancellations because of weather.  They will look to keep it going next weekend in more league double header action!

BV 9s RED:  Won the Championship of the “ASL” Tournament at No Off Season fields in Tarentum, PA.  This team is really playing well — on this weekend they outscored their opponents by a margin of 71 – 1!!  They are deep in pitching, hitting and talent!!  I am really looking forward to seeing this team compete in the Super NIT in MIchigan over the Memorial Day Weekend!!  However, lets not put the cart before the horse, they have to take care of some double header baseball next weekend before they get ahead of themselves.  They have been impressive to start the season, and with this Championship they lift their record to a perfect 18 – 0!!

BV 10s BLACK:  Finished the “ASL” Tournament at No Off Season fields in Tarentum, PA with a 1 – 3 record.  This was a tough weekend for this team.  After coming off a solid showing at the Mother’s Day tournament, this team did not play as well as the prior weekend.  After a tough 0 – 2 start, our team got it going in the playoffs, winning their first game then running into the BV 10s RED in the quarterfinals.  If this team can get more consistent play, they will start to grab more wins and build some momentum.  They have the next weekend off, so we are hoping a few practices with this team can clean some things up!!

BV 10s RED:  Won the Championship of the “ASL Tournament” at No Off Season fields in Tarentum, PA.  This team was awfully impressive all weekend outscoring their opponents by a 54 – 4 margin!!  This group is battle tested and playing the game at a high level.  They look to keep it going; as they enter a tough 3 week stretch of some serious baseball.  They have a tournament in Columbus, OH – then Sterling Heights, MI – then Cincy, OH.  This past weekend gave them some much needed game play to help them prepare for that stretch.  Even with a number of cancellations, this team has been able to lift their record to 18 – 1 with their only loss coming at the hands of an 11U team!!

BV 11s RED:  Won the Championship of the “ASL” Tournament at No Off Season fields in Tarentum, PA.  This team finished this event with a 4 – 1 record, and this raises their record to an impressive 19 – 1 overall.  They played a sloppy pool game on Saturday, and took their first loss of the season, but in the end, our guys had just too much for this field of teams, and they won the championship by a score of 13 – 2.  They are looking at a very intense 3 week stretch of great travel events, and I hope they got their sloppy game out of the way!!  I’m confident we will see clean hard nosed baseball over this big stretch!!!

BV 12s RED:  Won the Championship of the “ASL” Tournanment at No Off Season fields in Tarentum, PA.  This team is starting to get on a roll, as they have won back to back events, and 12 straight games!!  Their pitching and defense have really been outstanding all season, and when this team is swinging the bats well, they are very difficult to beat.  With this Championship, this team has a record of 27 – 3 overall!!  Like a lot of our teams, they are faced with a tough 3 weekends of great travel events, and I feel this team is ready to continue to compete and win championships!!

BV 13s RED:  Won the Championship of the “ASL” Tournament at No Off Season fields in Tarentum, PA.  This squad jumped back into tournament action for the first times since they won the Super NIT in Canton, MI.  It didn’t take them long to shake a weekend off of rust off; as they dominated all their opponents for the whole tournament.  They finished this event with a perfect 4 – 0 record, and they outscored their opponents by a 41 – 1 margin.  Their overall record is now 19 – 0 – 1 and they are faced with a trifecta of tournaments over the next 3 weekends!!  I know one thing, I wouldn’t bet against them and their #13 national ranking in the nation!!

**OK that was a tough weekend of baseball and weather!!  It felt like an early April game instead of a mid May tournament!!  I was proud of our guys for gutting it out, and finding ways to take care of business!!

**On this weekend, our BV program finished with a very impressive 27 wins and 4 losses!!

That is all for now,

Brian
